Halloween is one of my favorite holidays – I love the idea of adopting a different character (or thing) for the day. I wish we had Halloween ever couple of months instead of just once a year. I love helping the kids come up with costume ideas and putting the costumes together.
This year, they each seemed to take some inspiration from Netflix Streaming. Dexter decided to go as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (Leonardo), Cooper loves watching spy movies so he decided to go as a secret agent, and Campbell can’t get enough of cars, especially the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Road Rally, so he decided to be a race car driver.
Okay, I’ll admit that the TMNT & race car driver costumes were purchased. I prefer to make or assemble costumes myself, but Dexter and Campbell changed their minds about 100 times so it was difficult to nail down their costumes until earlier this week. Cooper has known what he wanted to be for a while so I ordered him a new suit (so much better than a regular costume because he’ll wear it again, and so will his brothers when they get bigger), a pair of sunglasses (he needed a new pair anyway, so another bonus!), and an earpiece with a coiled wire. I love the little details like that and I know the kids will like having that for playing dress up and spy in the future.
We’re looking forward to doing some trick-or-treating in costume today, and I’m sure we’ll continue to play dress-up and pretend to be our favorite characters throughout the year.
Some families REALLY embrace the Halloween spirit and create some really fantastic costumes. Instagrammer @GinaLee has some truly impressive costumes she made for her daughter inspired by shows on Netflix, like Orange is the New Black and Inspector Gadget.
