Recently the boys and I had a busy day with a lot of time spent in the car. We were all getting a little hungry (okay, maybe even hangry), but I wanted something healthier and tastier than drive-thru fare, so we popped into the Corner Bakery in Oak Lawn.
Corner Bakery has a huge selection of bakery items and beverages, as well as yummy meals for every part of the day. You’ll find breakfast dishes, salads, sandwiches, soup, and pasta. Here are some of the best-selling options for each meal:
For breakfast – Anaheim Scrambler – Freshly scrambled eggs with applewood smoked bacon, tomatoes, green onions and cheddar cheese, topped with avocado.
For lunch – Chopped Salad – Salad featuring all-natural chicken, applewood smoked bacon, avocado, bleu cheese, tomatoes and green onions tossed with iceberg and romaine lettuce and our sweet and spicy house vinaigrette.
For dinner – Pesto Cavatappi – All-natural grilled chicken and cavatappi pasta tossed in our rich pesto cream sauce and sprinkled with toasted bread crumbs.
The boys sat down with their crayons and coloring book/kids menu and we all spent a long time trying to choose what to eat before I headed to the counter to place our order. Campbell chose mac & cheese (of course) with chips, chocolate milk, and a cookie. Dexter ordered peanut butter & jelly with chips, chocolate milk, and a cookie. Cooper had a really hard time deciding but finally chose a kid’s combo with a ham sandwich and tomato soup. He’s been very conscious about healthy eating lately, so he was thrilled to find out it came with fruit and baby carrots (two of his favorite things!). I also had a difficult time choosing, but finally went with the Pesto Cavatappi with a Caesar salad on the side.
It was just a short wait for our food, which was delivered to our table. Everyone was delighted with their choice. Campbell can sometimes be picky about his mac & cheese, but he loved the Corner Bakery mac & cheese so much he kept dancing in his seat and it was hard to get him to sit still for photos.
Cooper cleaned his plate, and although Dexter didn’t, he did enjoy the food he ate.
I was very pleased with the Pesto Cavatappi. It was so yummy! The sauce was very creamy and although I usually don’t eat chicken in my pasta I loved it in this dish. It was perfect!
I really visiting Corner Bakery not just because of the food, but it’s a very comfortable and relaxing place. It’s calmer and quieter than fast food restaurants, but without the high prices and formal atmosphere of some restaurants. If you’re dining out with family they have tables and booths of various sizes to choose from, but if you’re meeting up with friends or just spending some quiet time alone they also have an area with a couch and comfy chairs surrounding a coffee table.
John was disappointed he wasn’t able to join us for lunch at Corner Bakery Cafe so we’ll have to visit again soon!
Corner Bakery Cafe has several locations in Chicago, and locations in Skokie, Oak Lawn, LaGrange, Wilmette, Hinsdale, Glenview, Oak Brook, Northbrook, Schaumburg, and Arlington Heights.
Corner Bakery was kind enough to not only invite me and my family to dine with them, but they want to treat a lucky Toddling Around Chicagoland reader to some food or beverages too. They’ve provided $20 in Corner Bakery gift certificate. Please enter using the form below.
