Confession: I was a HUGE New Kids on the Block fan in my pre-teen & teen years. Like, a HUGE fan. I went to concerts, had posters all over my room, plus all the t-shirts and other merchandise.
Fast forward to college. Joey McIntyre had moved onto his solo music career and announced several performances. My friend Joslyn, who was also a huge fan, suggested we attend a show. We did some research and discovered none of the shows were in the Midwest, so we came up with a plan. Things snowballed quickly from a road trip to draining our (measly) savings and maxing out our credit cards to buy plane tickets and book a rental car and hotel to see Joey perform on his home turf in Boston.
Yep, that’s right. Along with one of my friends and a friend of hers I flew to Boston for a few days just to see Joey McIntyre perform solo in a small venue. The show was, of course, amazing. We didn’t get to meet Joey, but we got much closer to the stage than we ever had at a NKOTB concert so it was exciting.
We spent the other couple days exploring Boston. We had a blast and we knew it was a trip we’d remember and talk about forever. (And it is! Who knew I’d be blogging about it someday??) The end was a bit of a disaster – it’s a long story so I won’t bore you with all the details, but it involved an aborted plane landing and diverted flight, multiple extra flights, a few missed meals, and a long night sleeping in a New Hampshire airport before we finally made in back to Chicago. Still, it was worth it.
But enough about me. Would you like to actually meet Joey McIntyre in person? He’s coming here to Chicago and will be available for autographs. He’s currently promoting his new show, Return of the Mac which airs on Pop TV on Wednesday nights beginning April 12.
First, watch Joey McIntyre online on #ChicagonistaLIVE on Wednesday, March 29 at 4:00 pm. Then, at 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm he’ll be available for you to meet him at Studio Xfinity, 901 W. Weed Street in Chicago.
