Art & Science Birthday Party at Mixin Mingle: Part 1

Cooper and Dexter have birthdays two days apart so we do a joint party every year. The boys didn’t have a theme in mind this year so I suggested an Art and Science party and they loved the idea. I was really proud of how great the party turned out and we all had a blast so I’m excited to share this!

We found a fabulous place for the party right here in Woodstock. Mixin Mingle is a great space here in the historic Woodstock Square. It’s a social venue specializing in parties, events, meetings, and classes.

Mixin Mingle can hold up to 105 seated, or 213 with open space standing. These photos are all from before our party so you can see how great this space is. There are tables and chairs available to set up as you wish, a sink, microwave, and lots of counter space, and a refrigerator.

The back room is carpeted and there’s even a playroom (complete with toys) for babies and young children. There are two bathrooms, including a handicapped accessible bathroom, and a changing table.

Mixin Mingle is available at hourly rates for private parties and public events. Renters have access to a 55″ HD tv and DVD player, portable bar/speaker podium, iPod/iPhone amplification, and free wi-fi. There’s plenty of parking and Mixin Mingle is conveniently located in the historic Woodstock square.

Mixin Mingle can be rented for weddings, parties, baby showers, art & craft shows, vendor fairs, meetings, performances, classes, workshops, and lots more. Visit the Mixin Mingle calendar to see availability for rentals and to see upcoming public events. During the month of January 2014 Mixin Mingle will have sign language classes for children, Zumba fitness, HoneyCraft Indie Craft Market, and more.

A little story about how awesome Mixin Mingle is: After the birthday party my brother and his fiance decided to have their wedding and reception at Mixin Mingle! I can’t wait!

Setting the Scene

Mixin Mingle is a beautiful venue so I didn’t really want to decorate with streamers and such. I thought it would be prettier left alone. We did set up tables, making sure to leave some open space for kids to play.

To fit the “Art” part of the theme I brought markers and crayons and set up two art easels. When the guests arrived they were each offered an apron and stickers to decorate it (which I do NOT recommend; the stickers wouldn’t stick and fell off easily and wound up all over the floor), and a pair of plastic glasses. I originally wanted to get goggles, but they were more expensive and I didn’t think the kids would wear them because of how bulky they were.
