Disney Live! Presents Three Classic Fairy Taleswebsite

Location: Akoo Theater (formerly the Rosemont Theater), 5400 North River Road, Rosemont

Phone: 847-671-5100

Show times: This show was only in town for one weekend. The only remaining show is Sunday, March 18 at 1:00 pm.

Admission: $15-$70 ($19.75-$79.65 with fees)

Parking: There is a large attached lot. Parking is $13 (cash only!), or $20 for valet parking.

Bathrooms: The bathrooms are large and had changing tables. The sink, soap, and hand dryer were all within reach of our 4-year-old.

Nursing area: There is no designated nursing area.

Handicapped/stroller accessibility: I would not recommend bringing a stroller. The show is accessible to the handicapped.

Other amenities: There were a variety of Disney products available for purchase, both at the vendor tables in the lobby and from venders walking in the aisles of the theatre before the show and at intermission. For an idea of pricing, there was a plastic crown with Mickey ears available for $10, which included cotton candy.

Food: Snack foods were available in the lobby; beverages, popcorn, cotton candy, etc. A plastic bucket of popcorn was $10.

We paid: We received complimentary tickets to the show, but paid $13 for parking. Our tickets probably would have been approximately $30-$35 each.

Our experience:

I was surprised at how excited the boys were about the show; I was afraid with it being a princess theme and having seen princess stories at Disney On Ice recently that they would be bored, but the really enjoyed the show. Dexter’s eyes light up when Goofy and Mickey came on stage and he was thrilled.

We saw the story of Snow White and most of Cinderella (approximately 45 minutes) and then there was a 15-minute intermission followed by the end of Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. I was impressed by the costumes (almost exactly the same as the Disney On Ice costumes), but the set was a little boring. I didn’t catch it, but John pointed out that there were actually several stage malfunctions during the show. None of them seemed to affect anyone’s enjoyment of the show though.

The seven dwarves, as well as Mickey, Donald, Minnie, and Goofy, were all adorable. The queen in Snow White was actually pretty scary. The costume was elaborate and scary and there was a lot of lightning, thunder, and smoke when she was on stage. I kept glancing at the kids because I thought they might be scared, but they seemed fine.

The entire show is lip-synced, which was a bit disappointing, but it was well done and we didn’t notice any inconsistencies. The volume was way too loud; I think this was the loudest show we have ever attended. Even during the intermission they continued to play music and it was loud enough that I couldn’t hear what the kids were saying when they sat next to me. The kids didn’t seem to mind (although my kids never mind deafening noises), but I left with a headache.

Overall the show was decent. I’m looking forward to possibly seeing something that doesn’t involve princesses in the future.
