Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph is in theatres nationwide. I am not posting specifics (prices, bathrooms, etc) because theatres vary so much.
You can find where Wreck-It Ralph is playing near you or purchase tickets online at the Wreck-It Ralph site.
John recently took Cooper to see Wreck-It Ralph and he wrote the following post about the movie:
I never thought I would utter the following two sentences in succession: I went to an advance screening of a movie starring Sarah Silverman, John C. Reilly, Jane Lynch, Ed O’Neil, and Adam Corolla. I took my five-year-old son.
The unlikely cast of Wreck-It Ralph belies the fact that it is a sweet comedy about fitting in and, to some extent, about overcoming one’s lot in life. Let’s be honest, it’s not heavy-handed with any message, and that’s a good thing in this case. My 5-year old son and I (at 34) are the perfect ages for this video-game comedy. The movie, in case you have sheltered yourself from the torrent of ads bordering on the political in frequency, is about the world inside video games and what happens when the bad guy doesn’t want to be the bad guy anymore.
The video game cameos draw heavily from the eighties and the modern, and I loved that. Some of my favorite moments were recognizing the ripped-off game logos in the end credits. And the Konami code, which, let’s face it, had to be referenced, is used perfectly. Most of this, of course, flew right over Cooper’s head. But Sarah Silverman (whose squeaky voice threatened to become unbearable, but somehow stayed cute-ish throughout the movie) stole the show for my boy. To be sure, her wonderful brand of shocking humor was restrained, but she was able to unleash herself on jokes hilarious to little boys. At least five-minutes of dialogue centers around the hilarious homonym for “duty,” “doodie.” Heheh, I just said “doodie.” Anyway, Cooper was a big fan.
We saw the movie in 3-D, which I highly recommend. Reaching behind the screen into the wiring of the arcade games is more fun when you feel like you can reach out and grab your favorite characters. The odd disjointed motion of the eight-bit blip people inside the Fix-It Felix, Jr. game (the box where Ralph does his bad-guy work) made it feel more real still.
So, if you have a kid between five and ten, or you are a video game nerd from the eighties, you’ll love Wreck-It Ralph. And then, after the kids go to bed, lets see the new filth-comedy they should ABSOLUTELY make starring Sarah Silverman, John C. Reilly, Jane Lynch, Ed O’Neil and Adam Corolla.
We received 2 tickets to an advanced screening of Wreck-It Ralph. All opinions expressed are our own.
My boys (5 & 7) and I (34) loved Wreck-It Ralph, too. They wanted to make their own candy cars afterward! (Too bad I’m not more ‘Martha Stewart-ish’ or I’d have let them do it already!)
Sounds like I need to send my husband and kids to this =) {I’d go, but 3D gives me headaches}
Also, I never thought about it, but seeing the list of actors and then thinking about taking a 5yo to a movie with them, is kind of funny!
Can’t wait to go see it also. My kids have been begging me to take them. thanks for sharing.
