I’m writing a book

Modern workspace - girl with laptop working.

I’ve been meaning to write this post for months, but I’ve been anxious about actually putting this out there for the world to see. It’s still seems like it’s not real, but it is so I’m excited to announce it.

I know I haven’t been around much lately, here on the blog or on social media – at least not as much as I used to be – but I have a good reason. I’m writing a book!

When I started Toddling Around Chicagoland my husband John said what I was actually doing was writing a book. He thought the blog would evolve into a book over the years. I thought he was a little crazy, but here we are (almost) 5 years later and I’m writing a book. He was right!

Last year I was contacted by Reedy Press, a small publishing company in St. Louis that specializes in local books. They liked Toddling Around Chicagoland and wanted to know if I’d like to write a guidebook for parents for Chicago and the suburbs. Um, YES! I’ve been working on the book for a long time and still have a bit more work to do before it’s finished, but you can expect to see my book online and in bookstores next Spring. OMG!

I’ll share more information when I can, but for right now I can tell you that I expect the title of the book to be The Ultimate Kids Adventure Guide to Chicago. Sounds exciting, right? I think so!

In the meantime, be sure to check out the amazing 100 Things to Do in Chicago Before You Die book written by Molly Page and also published by Reedy Press. In fact, name a city and there’s probably a “100 Things to Do in ____ Before You Die” book for it from Reedy Press!

I’ll post here when I can, and definitely more when I finish the book and submit it to the publisher. I can’t wait for you guys to see it!

In the meantime, what attraction, hotel, or restaurant in Chicago or any of the Chicago suburbs HAS to be in the book? I’d love to hear what you think. Maybe it’s already there or maybe I’ll add it!
