Throwback Family Time with Netflix Streaming

Throwback Family Time with Netflix Streaming #StreamTeam

If there’s one thing kids love, it’s hearing about how things used to be in the “olden days”. Okay, maybe they actually hate it.

As much as I promised I’d never be THAT parent, I find myself telling my kids, “When I was a kid…” and “When I was younger…” Sometimes it’s just fun reminiscing about growing up and sometimes I want to remind my kids that they have a lot of advantages they should appreciate.

I’m amazed at how different things are for my kids than they were for me. They won’t remember life without cell phones, wifi, and streaming tv shows and movies.

Because there are so many differences in our childhoods, it’s especially fun to find childhood experiences we share.

One of our recent shared experiences came to us through Netflix Streaming – Inspector Gadget.

The kids discovered the new reboot of Inspector Gadget in our kids profile on Netflix and they were instantly curious because they love playing spies and trying to invent and built their own gadgets. They were shocked that I had even heard of Inspector Gadget, and when I predicted that Inspector Gadget would be kinda clumsy and mess things up, but Penny would save the day and solve the case they were pretty sure I was psychic.

Scooby Doo is another one of the kids’ favorites that I watched as a kid too. We all love saying, “And I would have gotten away with it if it wasn’t for those meddling kids!”

Somehow we started talking about things I used to do when I was a kid and the paper fortune teller came up, so I decided to make some with the kids. It took me a while to remember how to make it, but I finally figured it out. It’s a fun throwback game to make with kids.

Now that you’ve made your paper fortune teller, here’s how you play:

Hold it with your fingers under the large diamond shapes (like pictured above). Think of your question. Choose a color, then open the fortune teller, alternating between up/down and left/right, once for each letter to spell out the color. You’ll end with a choice of four numbers. Choose a number and open the fortune teller that many times. Choose a number again, and lift the flap for your answer.

Sometimes my kids like to put fortunes instead of answers. You can put letters instead of numbers, different words, animals, weather, anything.

Netflix has some great classics and throwback reboots to enjoy with your kids.
