“A Year with Frog and Toad” Comes to Chicago Children’s Theatre

A Year with Frog & Toad at the Chicago Children's Theatre

A Year with Frog & Toad brings great memories for me. It was one of my favorite books as a child and I’m so excited because the Chicago Children’s Theatre is bringing it to the stage this fall. A Year with Frog & Toad brings lots of happy memories not only to parents and children, but also to the Chicago Children’s Theatre board, artists, and staff – it was the production that launched the organization eleven years ago.

Arnold Lobel’s stories and illustrations inspired this performance about two best friends through four seasons. Cheerful Frog and grumpy Toad will swim, rake leaves, sled, and learn lessons. They’ll also play a variety of instruments performing songs including “Cookies”, “Getta Loada Toad”, and “Merry Almost Christmas”.

Stuart Carden is directing, and Andra Velis Simon is the music director. A diverse and talented cast of professional Chicago actors play Frog, Toad and all of their animal friends. Matthew C. Yee, a past CCT performer, will play Frog. Andy Nagraj will make his CCT debut as Toad. Shawn Pfautsch will reprise his 2013 role as Snail. Lauren Vogel plays Bird #1, Mouse, and others. Jazelle Morris plays Bird #2, Turtle, and others. The production team includes John Musial (scenic design), Rachel Healy (costume design), Lee Fiskness (light design), Ellie Terrell (prop design) and Ari Clouse (stage manager).

The Station

Earlier this year the Chicago Children’s Theatre moved to a new home at “The Station”. The Station is a performing arts and education facility. The Pritzker Family Studio Theatre has 149-seats for performances, but the building also has classrooms for classes in music and dance, theatre, aerial arts, improv, and more.
