Walmart Family Mobile: Best Wireless to Keep Me Connected

Back to school time! For me this means it’s time to find the best wireless plan to keep me connected with my kids and family. #Cbias gave me an opportunity to try out WalMart Family Mobile.

When Cooper was born I left my job to be a stay-at-home mom, and I’m with my kids constantly. They spend pretty much every minute of every day with me; they rarely stay with babysitters (and then it’s only family or close friends), but this year Dexter is in preschool a few hours a week, and Cooper is in full-day kindergarten. It’s a huge adjustment and I want to be sure I am able to stay in touch as much as possible. Of course Cooper and Dexter aren’t old enough for cell phones, but I need to be reachable by phone in case they are sick or hurt at school or there is any kind of problem.

We have Sprint cell phone service right now, but I don’t like that we have a two-year contract. My phone is old and outdated and I’d love to upgrade it, but have to wait until my contract is up unless I want to pay full price for a new phone. I was also hoping to find a lower monthly rate without the commitment, so I was interested in checking out other options.

I ask a lot from a cell phone and plan. I need something affordable, dependable, and with lots of features to keep me connected. While the kids are in school I’m taking care of the baby and often running errands, so I need to know that I can be reached or that I can reach the school from anywhere in case of an emergency or a problem. Data is important to me because I want to receive emails as soon as my son’s teacher sends them, and I need to be online to manage my calendar (which is really my kids’ calendar – filled with all kinds of school activities and deadlines) and share information and photos with family and friends.

I hopped online and checked what the WalMart Family Mobile coverage was like in my area. It looked pretty good so Dexter, Campbell, and I headed to Wal-Mart. We even found a big blue cart so the boys could sit next to each other while we shopped.

Wal-Mart offers a wide range of cell phones and cell phone plans. I was interested in the Samsung Galaxy SII and the Family Mobile plan. The Family Mobile plan offers unlimited talk, text, and data for $39.88 a month. They also offer an unlimited talk and text plan for $29.88 a month. There’s no contract and you can add up to four more lines; additional lines have a $5 discount (so $34.88 or $24.88 a month).

It took a bit of time for the clerk to find the Galaxy SII in the warehouse in the back of the store, but once we got started on setting up my phone and plan it only took about 15 minutes. I’m pretty sure that’s the fastest I’ve ever been in and out getting a new cell phone! We did a little shopping while we were at Wal-Mart and then headed home with my brand new phone.

Here’s my new Samsung Galaxy SII with my Family Mobile plan. I’m so excited to be trying out Walmart Family Mobile and I’ll be sharing my experience next month and telling you all about how #FamilyMobileSaves me time and money!
