Every kid I know (as well as most of the parents I know) loves Eric Carle stories. In our house, The Very Hungry Caterpillar was a particularly well-read book.
This weekend marks the opening of Brown Bear, Brown Bear & Other Treasured Stories with the Chicago Children’s Theatre. The show, which is produced by the Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia and will be held performed at the Ruth Page Center the the Arts, will bring characters from The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, and Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me off the page and onto the stage in a spectacular way.
If you love the Chicago Children’s Theatre and hope to discover other amazing family-friendly places to visit in Chicago and the suburbs, you can purchase a copy of my brand new book, The Ultimate Kids’ Adventure Guide to Chicago, at the concession stand at any of the performances of Brown Bear, Brown Bear & Other Treasured Stories, and I’ll be there to sign books on Sunday, May 7 after the 11:00 am show!
You can purchase tickets online, and if you use the promo code TODDLING you’ll receive a 20% discount on your tickets for the morning performance on Sunday, May 7. The TODDLING discount code is also good if you call and purchase tickets from the box office at 872-222-9555 (9:00 am-1:00 pm Tuesday-Friday).
Five years ago we visited the Chicago Children’s Theatre to see the Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia production A Bear, A Moon, and A Caterpillar: Treasured Stories by Eric Carle. We (John, Cooper and Dexter at ages 4 and 2, and I) were delighted by the black light sets and glowing puppets, and the amazing puppeteering by the performers.
We’re looking forward to seeing the similar Brown Bear, Brown Bear & Other Treasured Stories this weekend. It will be exciting to introduce it to Campbell, who wasn’t born until after the last show. I also think Cooper and Dexter will appreciate the show just as much, but in different ways now that they are a little older.
Performances are May 2-28, 2017 at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts, 1016 N. Dearborn St., Chicago. Show times are Tuesdays through Friday at 10 a.m., Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., and Sundays and 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Single tickets are $10-$39. For tickets and information, visit chicagochildrenstheatre.org or call (872) 222-9555. Don’t forget to use the code TODDLING for the Sunday, May 8 at 11:00 am performance to save 20%!
Sunday, May 21 at 11 a.m.
The show is recommended for ages 2-6 years old, but if this show is anything like the one we saw, everyone will be entranced by the show.
I hope to see you there!
