Cooper started full-day kindergarten recently and that made me worry about Dexter. Cooper is his constant playmate – they play with Legos, they race around the yard (and in the house despite my constant reminders not to run in the house), and they make up silly games that only they understand. I was concerned that with Cooper gone Dexter would spend his day bored and begging to watch tv constantly.
I jumped at the chance to try out the Magic Moves Electronic Wand by Educational Insights.
I gave the Magic Moves wand to Dexter when Cooper started school. He immediately loved it.
The Magic Moves Electronic Wand is simple to use for young kids. There are two buttons, Play and Repeat. The child presses the button for an instruction and the wand lights up and plays music while give directions like: swim like a fish, stomp like a dinosaur, or bounce like a astronaut.
Magic Moves is for children of preschool age and up. It’s designed to promote creativity, motor skills, vocabulary, and listening skills.
Dexter loves playing with the Magic Moves Electronic Wand; he carried it everywhere for a few days. Most of the activities involve animals and there is a different verb used for every instruction (run, leap, scurry). Dexter asked me about a couple of the words and we were able to talk about the words so he could figure out what they were; he asked what “leap” meant when he was instructed to “leap like a lion” and he was able to guess that leaping was similar to running and jumping.
Dexter played with the Magic Moves wand at home, in the car (seeing him try to swim like a fish while strapped into his carseat was pretty funny!), and outside, especially while we’re waiting for his brother’s school bus to arrive. He really enjoys it and it kept him very active.
Dexter and I are both very pleased with the Magic Moves wand. He has a lot of fun with it and I feel like he is staying active and learning while doing it. I love that it’s a great independent toy and I think it will be a lot of fun for a group of kids during playdates.
