Since it was created in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has built or repaired 800,000 homes and served more than 4 million people. Amazing!
Habitat for Humanity works with churches, community groups, businesses and individuals to help create safe, affordable housing for families who need it.
A common misconception about Habitat for Humanity is that they give houses away for free. Not true! Habitat families invest 100 hours of “sweat equity” working with Habitat, and they pay a mortgage for their home billed at 0% financing. Habitat then uses that money to build homes for more families.
Next week, from Wednesday, June 18th to Saturday, June 21, 2014, the Windy City Habitat for Humanity will be hosting their second annual Women Build. They’ll bring together 120 women in the spirit of generosity and achievement to help build and find the home of a woman in need of a decent, affordable housing. Special guests include HGTV Kitchen Crashers host, Alison Victoria; Chicago’s Best host, Brittney Payton; and NBC’s Food for Thought’s Dr. Sandy Goldberg.
Support Women Build in empowering women to promote, fund, and build the home of a female head of a household!
The purpose of the Windy City Habitat for Humanity Women Build is to not only build homes, but to strengthen families and enhance communities.
On each of the four days of the Women Build event, 30 women will come together to learn building skills and work on a Habitat Home in the Windy City Habitat’s block build at S. Union Avenue at 120th Street in West Pullman. This year,Women Build will be focusing on the Robinson family home. Grandma Robinson is the head of her family and she strives to keep her family of six together, safe, and supported.
This build is kick-starting the Women Build home; all Women Builders team commit to raising funds before the designated build day to contribute to the cost of the Women Build home.
