A trip to NOLA might not be in the budget, but you can still celebrate some of the fun and festivities of Mardi Gras right here in the Midwest with these family-friendly celebrations coming up soon:
Saturday, February 6
The Sounds of Mardi Gras at the Mokena Community Public Library
Mo Beat Blues will be serenading guests with the sounds of Mardi Gras between 1:00 and 2:00 pm. Registration is recommended.
Mardi Gras Family Night at the RecPlex in Mt. Prospect
It’ll feel like a mini-Mardi Gras at the RecPlex, complete with a Bourbon Street Boutique, a fortune teller, dixieland band music, and a parade. It’s not a true kid party without games, crafts, and a bounce house, so expect to find those. Attendees can even take a splash in the pool. This annual event is $5 for residents, $7 for non-residents, and adults are free.
Sunday, February 7
Mardi Gras Masquerade Samba Dance Party at Duet Dance Studio
Masks and dancing are major parts of the Mardi Gras experience and kids will love making a special mask and learning Samba moves from Brazil. The party is intended for ages 5-12 and no experience is required. Tickets are $20.
Tuesday, February 9
Fat Tuesday in the Fun-Shine at Key Lime Cove
It’s much more fun to celebrate Mardi Gras in warm weather so head up to Key Lime Cove for their special Mardi Gras package. Prices start at $149.95 and include overnight accommodations for up 6 people, admission to the Lost Paradise Indoor Waterpark, live entertainment by the Banjo Brothers Dixieland Quartet, $5 arcade credit, face painting, and a Sunset Festival Mardi Gras parade.
