Cantigny Park in Wheaton is a great place to spend a summer day – lots of room to walk and play, a playground, restaurant, picnic areas, a museum, tanks to climb on, a fountain, and lots more. See my full post on Cantigny Park. This summer Cantigny is offering free drop-in programs for kids.

No preregistration is necessary, and adults pay only for parking ($5 per car). The programs are on a “drop in” basis, meaning participants are welcome at any time during the designated hours below.

The following programs are available:

History Alive!

  • Thursdays starting June 5 (through August 28)
  • 1 to 3 pm
  • First Division Museum
  • Children ages 6 to 12 are invited to learn about a different military topic each week. Dress in a soldier’s uniform, interact with artifacts and participate in games and crafts from the day’s designated time period.

History Connections

  • Tuesdays starting June 10 (through August 26)
  • 1 to 3 pm
  • First Division Museum
  • Children ages 6 to 12 will explore a different theme each week and learn something new about our country’s military history.

Wild Wednesdays

  • Wednesdays starting June 11 (through August 6, except July 30)
  • 1 to 3 pm
  • Visitors Center backyard
  • Kids from 3 to 10 will enjoy hands-on nature exploration through games and crafts. Each week will have a different theme such as bugs, water or flowers. This outdoor program will not be held during inclement weather.

Cantigny Park offers a wide range of summer programming for children, including art classes and art camps, Camp Cantigny, kids concerts and Movies in the Park. Many activities and events are free with paid parking. The complete schedule of summer events, classes and concerts is online at Cantigny.org.

Cantigny is open every day throughout the summer from 7 am to dusk. Parking fees are $5 per vehicle or $2 off-peak (after 5 pm). Annual memberships starting at $50 include unlimited free parking.
