Big News from Six Flags Great America

Santa on a roller coaster at Six Flags Great America

Christmas isn’t exactly around the corner, but opening weekend for Great America is. If you’re excited about the April 21 opening weekend, Six Flags Great America has some amazing news for you. In addition to the brand new, record-breaking loop coaster, Mardi Gras Hangover, and an accompanying Mardi Gras Festival in late summer, they’re also extending their season all the way until New Year’s Eve for Holiday in the Park.

Unwrapping this November, Six Flags Great America will be host to a new season; for the first time in its 42 year history the park will have the addition of Holiday in the Park! The theme park will be operating from its opening weekend April 21 all the way to till New Year’s Eve! Six Flags Great America is overjoyed to have millions of dazzling lights, thrilling coasters and attractions, spectacular shows and so much more.

Six Flags Great America announced in the fall that their new record-breaking loop coaster will open this season. Dubbed the “Mardi Gras Hangover”, it’s the world’s largest loop coaster and will allow riders to “face-off” while they experience the 100-foot tall coaster that will send them on 360 degree revolutions with multiple inversions. Riders will move forward and backward, and eventually be suspended completely upside down.

Of course, you can’t have a hangover without a party, so Six Flags Great America will also be introducing a new Mardi Gras Festival in late summer. Nightly shows, Mardi Gras floats, beads, stilt walkers, unique food options, and fireworks will bring the Mardi Gras feel to Chicagoland.
