Join Google for some free fun tomorrow!
WHEN: Wednesday, July 22, 2015 from 10AM to 3PM
WHERE: Daley Plaza, 50 W. Washington Street, Chicago, IL 60602
WHAT: Google is teaming up with the City of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events to make geek “chic” with a festival to inspire and engage kids of all ages, including thousands of Chicago Park District campers, to explore the fields of science, technology, engineering, art and math (S.T.E.A.M.) education.
Careers in computer science are growing at 2x the national rate of other fields, which means by 2020 a million more jobs will be available in the field! However, fewer than 2.4% of college students graduate with the degree. Google is helping to close the digital divide by encouraging all kids to come to the Geek Street Festival and learn more about S.T.E.A.M. education.
The Chicago Geek Street Festival is similar to a traditional Chicago street fest, but with a tech twist: Instead of gyros and fried dough, festival booths will feature gadgets, games and gizmos to excite and encourage kids to pursue education in S.T.E.A.M. and computer science.
Participants at Chicago Geek Street will have the opportunity to:
- Create objects in a 3D printer
- Design computer code
- Interact with robots
- Recreate a Nobel Prize-winning experiment
- Explore sound engineering and manipulate electricity
And much more!
