Hours: 11am – 10pm  Monday – Saturday

Parking: There is street parking available.
Bathrooms: No bathrooms.
Handicapped/stroller accessibility: The shop is accessible. During the time we were there a woman came in with a stroller and seemed to have no problem getting around. There are a lot of tables so I could see how it might be difficult to maneuver if it was crowded.
Menu: Tates makes all their ice cream on site. In addition to ice cream, they offer shakes, malts, freezes, floats, phosphates, and flavored cola. You can also purchase Moon Pies, Fizzies, and a variety of old fashioned candy, games, and toys.
Activities: Children can do a craft and a scoop of ice cream for $5 at 1pm and 3pm daily. (You might even be able to get this deal at other times of the day if it’s not too busy.)

Special events: Tates has a hula hooping contest every Friday and Saturday night at 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm for $1, and you keep the hoop and maybe win a prize. They also have a scavenger hunt for teenagers for $5 every Wednesday night with prizes for the winners.
Tates also offers birthday parties (such as a “Make Your Own Sundae” party), cakes and pies, and sundae bars for work or home.
Our experience: We visited Tates on a weekday afternoon. It was empty when we came in, but there was a steady stream of customers while we were there, although not enough to make it crowded. The ice cream was fantastic (I had peppermint) and I ordered the kiddie size for both boys; it was a lot of ice cream and I figured neither of them would finish, but they did (they even drank the “ice cream soup”) and seemed to love every second of it. There was a child-size table and chairs for them, as well as books and games to keep them busy while they waited for their ice cream. The service was fantastic and the location is great – right near lots of great restaurants and shops. We really enjoyed it and I plan to return, probably for one of their special activities – maybe hula hooping!
