My family and I are constantly eating on the go. We picnic whenever we can, but we often wind up eating quick meals in the car too. It’s difficult to avoid fast food when you’re on the go, and my picnic options tend to get a little repetitive.
We had a chance to try out two GoPicnic meals recently. GoPicnic meals are boxed, shelf -meals that each contain protein, fiber, and fruit. They contain no trans fat, no high fructose corn syrup, and no artificial colors or flavors. GoPicnic also offers meal options for specific diets – vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and kosher. Please note that not all meals are gluten free – read the product description if you are looking for gluten free meals. Also, GoPicnic is a Chicago based business!
We tried the Turkey Stick & Crunch and the Hummus & Crackers.
The Turkey Stick & Crunch meal is gluten free. It contains: an Old Wisconsin turkey snack stick, PopChips BBQ chips, Niagara Natural Tropical Fruit Bites, Sweet Perry Orchards Baja Blend Fruit & Nut Mix, and an Enjoy Life Double Chocolate Cookie.
The Hummus & Crackers meal is vegan, kosher, and gluten-free. It contains: Wild Garden Hummus Dip, Crunchmaster Multi-Seed Crackers, Sweet Perry Orchards Baja Blend Fruit & Nut Mix, Seapoint Farms Dry Roasted Edamame, and an Endangered Species Dark Chocolate Square.
We brought the Hummus & Crackers meal along with other food on a picnic and we all shared it. The dry roasted edamame was my favorite – absolutely delicious. The Turkey Stick & Crunch I saved for myself for a busy day when I was rushing around taking care of the kids and getting them fed and didn’t really have enough time to make food for myself.
The meals come in small boxes and because they don’t need to be refrigerated they can be stored in a cabinet, in the car, or in a diaper bag. The inside of the box even has a Sudoku puzzle. I often run errands with the kids and they always take longer than I expect; I often have to feed them while we’re out and I hate giving them fast food. Now I can toss a few GoPicnic boxes in my bag and have a fun and healthy meal for them (and me) just in case.
