Happy Feet Two: The Videogame Review

I like to keep my kids active (obviously!) and I’m always a little concerned about colder weather and how we’re going to deal with being trapped in the house more often. My (crazy) brother just bought my kids a Wii for their birthdays and although I’ve been trying to put off videogames for as long as possible, I relented because at least the Wii keeps you moving.  We haven’t seen Happy Feet Two yet, but the boys enjoyed Happy Feet so I was pretty excited about trying out the game.

The videogame is recommended for ages 6 and up. Cooper’s only 4 and it took a little time and some help from Dad to get the hang of it, but he really started to catch on. In the game you are a penguin and you need to recruit more penguins by dancing. Dancing also helps you to stun enemies and complete certain tasks. There are different exits requiring different numbers of penguins to be recruited. Throughout the levels you collect music notes which help you to unlock more music options for the game. You can also play cooperatively with another player.

Cooper enjoyed the game. I was a bit disappointed. I think I was expecting something along the lines of Just Dance, but a little easier for kids. I thought the game would require actual movement like most Wii games do, but you dance in the game by pushing buttons on the nunchuck controller. The entire time Cooper played the game he was sitting on the couch. The game was still cute and a decent game for kids, but definitely not the get-up-and-move kind of activity I was looking for.
