Northern Illinois Tornado Recovery – How You Can Help

UPDATE: The Village of Kirkland is now reporting they are not currently in need of any donations of goods or any volunteers to assist Fairdale.

Last night was scary for residents of Northern Illinois, and I think most of us are hugging our kids a little tighter today and feeling very thankful for everything we have. Unfortunately, not everyone was as fortunate yesterday as Fairdale, Rochelle, and Belvidere suffered tornado damage. If you would like to help, here are some places to get started.

Please let me know if you have any additional information to add, or if any information has changed. I will be out today to make some donations, but I will do my best to keep this information up to date.

  • AA and D batteries
  • First aid items (in sealable bags)
  • Over-the-counter medicine for children and adults

  • No longer needed: clothing, blankets, towels, wash cloths, water

Volunteer

• The Rockford First church is asking those willing to volunteer to contact them so you can be contacted when help is needed.

Monetary Donations

• The Rochelle Area Community Foundation is accepting donations. Their website appears to be down at the moment, but you can visit the Rochelle Area Community Foundation Facebook page.
• The Summerfield Zoo in Belvidere suffered the loss of two animals and extensive damage. Visit the Summerfield Zoo Tornado Recovery GoFundMe page to make donations. Visit the Summerfield Zoo Facebook page for updates and ways you can help.
• Donate to the American Red Cross. Text redcross to 90999 to donate $10.
• Donate to the Salvation Army online, by phone at 1-800-SAL-ARMY, or text SACHICAGO to 80888 to make a $10 donation.
